Hello. Nice to meet you.Â
My name is Karla, I am an MD passionate about helping people build healthier lives through nutrition, mindset, and sustainable habits.
I went to medical school in Mexico in the late 1990s, at a time when obesity rates were rising rapidly. In medicine, we were already seeing how this was impacting mortality and quality of life. Back then, bariatric surgery was considered the only truly effective long-term treatment for obesity, which led me to complete a general surgery residency and a fellowship in laparoscopic surgery.
After years in the operating room, I realized that we were focusing far more on treatment than on prevention. That realization pushed me to step back and dedicate years to studying the why and how behind the obesity epidemic and, more importantly, what we can do to prevent it.

Having lived in Mexico for much of my life and in Italy for a year, I’ve been deeply influenced by different cultural approaches to food, health, and daily living. These experiences shaped my understanding of what “healthy eating” can look like across cultures, as well as the unique challenges and roadblocks people may face depending on their background and environment.
I’m also a longtime military spouse to a cardiologist, which meant moving often and learning how to create consistent, healthy routines in the midst of change. After my husband’s military retirement, we finally settled in Davis, California, where we live with our energetic triplets.
Today, I combine my medical training with evidence-based nutrition and coaching strategies to create educational programs and courses designed to simplify nutrition and support sustainable lifestyle change without extremes, guilt, or confusion. My work is grounded in science, shaped by real life, and focused on helping people build habits that last.
